Beadwork

Jewelry made of beads are very popular in Kenya. Most people wear bracelets and other ornaments made by beads. It is a substantial business and very suitable for deaf women. Deaf women are often naturally gifted to work with their hands. Their hand-eye coordination is often better developed than others. They also tend to concentrate better. This makes them excellent beadwork producers.

In 2021 the Deaf Centre has initiated a project to train deaf women in beadwork and sell the products. This has lead to a sustainable business that currently employs two deaf women fulltime and generates income for the Deaf Centre. In the second half of 2022 this project will be expanded and new deaf women will be trained, and new sales channels will be created.
